Cleveland Aims For Accuracy
By John Steinbreder – Global Golf Post Cleveland Golf engineers say they have employed three key technologies in the company’s new RTX-3 line, which they describe as the most accurate wedges they have ever made. First is “feel balancing,” which entails the shifting of the center of gravity closer to the impact zone to decrease vibration and maximize head stability. Then, they produced a trio of V-shaped grinds with more leading-edge bounce to get the club through the turf faster and promote a crisper feel and more consistent head speed. Finally, the technicians endowed the Rotex face with new Tour Zip grooves that have a deeper, narrower U shape with a sharp-edge radius to enhance contact no matter what the conditions. They also designed a micro-milling pattern to increase friction, with the lower lofts (46 to 52 degrees) boasting a straighter pattern to accommodate full shots and the higher lofts (54 to 64 degrees) having a more angled one to optimize open-face shots. “After spending more than two years developing these wedges, Cleveland Golf is very proud with the finished product,” says John Rae, vice president of research and development for Srixon/Cleveland Golf/XXIO. “Our testing proves the three technologies in [...]
