Callaway Gets In Groove With New Wedge Grind

By John Steinbreder – Global Golf Post For the past several months, Callaway Golf has been rolling out new iterations of its popular MD3 milled wedge. In March, for example – and just in time for St. Patrick’s Day – came a club with a green shamrock lasered onto the head. Then, in early June, the equipment maker released three line extensions: 50- and 52-degree W-Grinds and a 64-degree C-Grind. Now, it has rolled out an S-Grind with a gold nickel finish that is available in lofts of 50, 52, 56, 58 and 60 degrees. Wedge designer Roger Cleveland says the S-Grind is used because of the versatility it provides and the way it performs in a wide range of conditions and for a broad spectrum of swing and shot types. As he has done with other members of the MD3 family, Cleveland also employed Progressive Groove Optimization with the gold nickel version, relying on three different types of grooves precision-milled into the clubfaces to optimize spin as lofts increase – and to provide a smoother transition from players’ irons to wedges.
