Steel Surprises – Callaway’s New Steelhead XR and OS Irons and Hybrids
Relentless innovation is a mantra at Callaway Golf and the new Steelhead XR and OS irons and XR hybrids live up to that billing. Here’s a look at the new technological wonders: STEELHEAD XR IRONS These irons deliver the best combination of speed, forgiveness, distance and control of any Callaway iron. With its innovative 360 Face Cup Technology, more weight is positioned below the ball at impact for higher, longer shots. There’s also more weight around the per-imeter, which means more forgiveness and accuracy. STEELHEAD XR HYBRIDS For longer par 3s, the XR Steelhead hybrids are perfect for higher-handicap players who have trouble getting distance from long irons and who need more forgiveness. The blade length is larger and the face bigger for a more substantial sweet spot, giving you far more distance even on off-center hits. For increased swing speed, the XR hybrids feature an aerodynamic speed step crown. And because high-launching shots that land softly on the green are critical to scoring, these hybrids have more overall weight shifted back and low to get the ball up faster than traditional long irons. OS IRONS The most complex iron ever created by Callaway features an Exo-Cage club head construction [...]

New Golf Channel series puts drivers to the test Reality television has been a hit ever since it debuted at the dawn of the new millennium, and golf has been a big part of that with its “Big Break” series. With this fall’s “Driver vs. Driver” on Golf Channel, though, the genre has taken a fascinating new turn into the world of golf club design. The seven-episode series, which debuts October 4, airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET through November 22 and features 11 individuals or teams vying to have their design selected as Wilson Golf’s newest driver for 2017. Peak Performance – Titleist Performance Studio at Roger Dunn Golf of Santa Ana
Most golfers in the greater Orange County area are quite familiar with all the golf-related equipment, apparel and accessories assembled within the spacious confines of the Roger Dunn Golf Shops Superstore in Santa Ana, Calif. But the store has never offered anything quite like what it unveiled on September 17, when Titleist opened a state-of-the-art club-fitting studio. The Titleist Complete Performance Studio is a 1,500-square-foot indoor bay that is being billed “the largest we’ve ever built,” according to David Kern, Vice President of Club Sales for Titleist. “It allows us to fit every club in the bag with both a full-swing area and a very large short-game space and putting green. “This is truly a unique experience that will allow golfers the opportunity to experience Titleist golf clubs from tee to green. We’ve never done this before in an indoor retail environment.” The studio opened the same day that Titleist unveiled its new line of 917 metal woods. The idea for the center was conceived when Titleist was approached by Roger Dunn Golf Shops to upgrade its previous Titleist Fitting Bay. Well aware of the importance of the partnership between the retailer and manufacturer, Titleist jumped at the opportunity. “The [...]
